Apply to return to residence in 2027
Keep the best parts of uni life and stay close to your friends, classes and community by returning to campus next year. We’ve made the process simple, whether you’re happy where you are or want a change.
Here is what you need to know:
I want to RETURN to my current residence in Semester 1, 2027
No need to do anything. We will automatically assess your eligibility, and if you are eligible, you will receive an offer on 19 October 2026.
I want to become a STUDENT LEADER
Nominations for Residential Scholarship roles are open from 14 to 23 August 2026. If you are interested in becoming a student leader, you will need to nominate yourself during this period.
I want to TRANSFER to a different residence or room type
If you want to transfer to a different residence or a different room type within your current residence, you must apply through the accommodation portal from 14 to 30 August 2026. You will receive your transfer outcome alongside returner offers in October. If your transfer is not successful but you are eligible to return, you will still receive an offer for your current residence. Apply for transfer
I do not want to return to campus accommodation
If you are eligible, you will still receive a returner offer, which you can simply decline. If you are open to other options, you may wish to explore different residences or consider joining Griffin Hall, our non-residential student community.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible to return to campus in 2027, you need to:
- Have completed the Rights, Relationships and Respect module
- Not be in breach of the Occupancy Agreement
- Not have your accommodation account in high arrears
- Be enrolled as a student at ANU or another recognised education institution in Semester 1, 2027

How does the returner process work?
How much will accommodation cost in 2027?
The Fee Summary for 2027 will be published on our website before offers are issued, so you will have all the details before you decide.
Do I need to sign a new contract, or can I extend my current one?
You’ll need to sign a new Occupancy Agreement when you receive your offer. The 2027 Agreement will be different from your current one, so make sure to read it carefully. It will be available on our website.
What happens with my accommodation over the summer? Can I stay on campus, or do I have to move out?
You will have the option to stay with us over the summer between the 2026 and 2027 contract periods. As some residences may close during the summer break, you may need to move to one of our designated summer residences for this period. We will publish detailed information about summer accommodation, including key dates, eligibility and application requirements, in early August 2026 to help you plan ahead.
Do I need to pay a deposit to secure my accommodation offer?
You will need to pay the Acceptance Fees, which includes two weeks’ rent and a Resident Committee fee, to secure your spot on campus for 2027. Pay by the deadline through the accommodation portal, at your 2027 residence reception, or over the phone.
What if I don’t pay the acceptance fees before the deadline?
If you don’t pay the fees by the deadline, your offer will lapse and your place for 2027 won’t be secured. If you’re experiencing extenuating circumstances and need more time, please contact your residence as soon as possible.
Can I accept my offer and then cancel it if I change my mind?
Once you accept your offer and pay the Acceptance Fees, you enter a legally binding Occupancy Agreement. If your plans change and you no longer wish to stay on campus in Semester 1, 2027, you’ll need to submit an Early Termination Form.
You can request this form through your residence or by contacting our team at uni.accom@anu.edu.au. Your request will be assessed in line with the termination clauses outlined in the Occupancy Agreement.
Will there be financial support available next year?
The Emergency Accommodation Bursary remains available to all ANU students experiencing unexpected financial difficulty. Applications for the bursary are opened all year round.
Residential scholarships applications are managed separately and will follow their own application and assessment process.
I want to return but I did not meet the eligibility criteria. What should I do?
You may be eligible to request a review of the decision.
Your outcome letter issued on 19 October 2026 contains more details about how to request a review of decision. If you have questions about your circumstances, please contact our team and we will work with you to understand the options available.
I want to transfer residences, but I missed the deadline to apply. What should I do?
We may consider late transfer applications where there are extenuating circumstances, including wellbeing or medical concerns.

I will be graduating after Semester 1 2027 and only need a single semester contract. Is this possible?
Yes, you can request a single-semester contract if you're graduating or participating in an approved exchange program.
Please contact our team before offers are released to discuss your eligibility. If approved, we'll work with you to ensure your offer reflects your study plans.
I'm applying for a residential scholarship. How does this affect my accommodation or transfer options?
Leadership scholarship and accommodation outcomes will be released on 19 October 2026.
If you are applying for a leadership scholarship at another residence, you do not need to submit a transfer application solely for that purpose.
If you receive a leadership scholarship offer at another residence, we will align your accommodation offer to reflect the correct residence.
