Change of preference - Domestic applications

In most cases, domestic applicants are eligible to change their preferences prior to receiving an offer of admission.

What is change of preference?

Change of preference is an opportunity for you to re-order or add new programs to your list of preferences that ANU will assess for admission. Your preferences are assessed in order from first to fifth, so the program you want to study most should be your first preference, the one you want to study second-most as your second preference, and so on.

Advice for Early Offer Applications

Please view the key dates on the Timeline for Early Offer applications page.

  1. Log into the application portal
  2. Select the 'Programs' section
  3. Select 'Search for programs' to add a new preference by the change of preference deadline

You can also re-order your existing preferences in the 'Programs' section.

The order of your preferences is important. Preferences are assessed from first preference (the program you want to study the most) to fifth preference (the program you want to study the least).  It's important to prioritise your preferences to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

If you receive an early offer from ANU and accept it, your place at ANU is secured, provided that this early offer program remains your highest eligible preference and you complete Year 12 with an ATAR in the application year.

If you change or reorder your preferences after the early offer round, your application will be reassessed based on your new preference set. If you are eligible for a new preference, your early offer will be replaced by the final offer in December/January.

Changing your preference could impact your scholarship eligibility. Please ensure to contact the ANU Scholarship team if you change your preference.

You do not need to preference ANU in your UAC application (except Bachelor of Health Science program), as we will consider your ANU Early Offer application only. Make sure that you upload documents and change preferences in your Early Offer application.
