Gender, sex and sexuality are often in the news or in your social media feed because ideas of gender, sex and sexuality not only shape how we understand our bodies, identities, and relationships, but also wider political, cultural and historical movements. The Gender, Sexuality and Culture Major at ANU enables you to study some of the historical roots of 21st-century identity categories, and how these intersect with questions of (dis)ability, colonisation and race biological and cultural theories of sex and gender; debates in trans studies and queer theory; feminist analyses of the relationship between gender and differences of race and class; feminist theory, postmodernism and postfeminism. Whether you’re interested in public policy, politics, medicine, the law, philosophy or psychology, gender studies has something to offer you.
