In 2021, the Australian National University is offering the Christina Richards Scholarship with the aim of supporting a student who has experienced long-term educational disadvantage to complete an undergraduate degree at the University. It is offered to assist in overcoming barriers to a university education that experiencing financial hardship, having carer or sole parent responsibilities or living in a regional, rural or remote area might impose.
Funding for this award has been provided by Christina Richards, a local friend of the University who is passionate about humanitarian causes, equity and supporting students.

Continuation based on full-time study loadSelection is made on the basis of applicants meeting the eligibility criteria. Other factors may be taken into account where they align with the University's strategic objectives to ensure a diverse student cohort such as applicants who have received adjustment factors for a combination of disadvantages.
Where there are multiple applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, preference will be given (in order of priority) to applicants who:
• receive adjustment factors for excessive family responsibilities;
• receive adjustment factors for school environment (rural school, distance education/ Access program);
• receive adjustment factors for financial hardship;
• are Indigenous; or
• receive adjustment factors for Refugee status; or
• receive adjustment factors for multiple disadvantages.
The scholarship provides $5,000 per annum for up to 5 years to assist with educational and living expenses. The scholarship is paid at the beginning of each semester subject to the recipients meeting ongoing eligibility requirements as outlined in the conditions of award.
All applicants applying for admission to ANU through the direct Admission Scholarship and Accommodation Application will be automatically considered for the award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria and electing to be considered for scholarships.
