About this scholarship

 

The Australian National University (ANU) may offer a number of awards known as the Dorothy Mayhew-Hirvonen Bursary.

The objective of the Award is to support an ANU Law School female student who can demonstrate educational disadvantage on the grounds of financial, physical or emotional hardship.

Funding for this Award is provided by Dorothy Mayhew-Hirvonen in recognition of her love of the ANU and the time she spent there as a student.

The Award is available to a continuing ANU student who identifies as female and, at the time of application: 

  1. is a domestic or international student;
  2. is enrolled in Bachelor of Laws (Honours), as a single or flexible double degree, at the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy;
  3. is enrolled in a minimum of 6 units of LAWS-coded courses in the study period for which they are applying; and
  4. can demonstrate educational disadvantage on the grounds of financial, physical or emotional hardship.

The value of the Award is $2,000. The Award is paid in a one-off instalment upon accepting the Award unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.

Where there are more equally ranked applicants than Awards available, preference may be given, in order of priority, to applicants who:
  1. are in their first year of law studies;
  2. can demonstrate need on multiple grounds;
  3. have not received the Award previously; and
  4. identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
