About this scholarship
Each year, the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) may offer a number of awards known as the Ethel Tory Language Grant for Asian Languages.
The objective of the Award is to provide funds to cover documented travel costs for eligible students undertaking full-time language study outside Australia. It supports Asian language study in countries across the Asian region (excluding Australia).
Funding for this Award has been provided by the Ethel Tory Endowment Fund.

Eligibility
The Award is available each year to a commencing or continuing ANU student who:
- is a domestic or international student;
- is currently undertaking language study at an intermediate or advanced level (or equivalent) within their undergraduate program;
- is undertaking full-time language study outside Australia in Asian languages, in one of the following categories, all of which must be approved for credit towards the student's ANU program:
- A language course conducted offshore by ANU
- A language course offered by an approved international higher education provider
- A program of study delivered in a foreign language by an approved international higher education provider;
- has a strong academic record in the target language (the language they intend to study overseas), as demonstrated by their GPA in relevant coursework;
- is not undertaking the study of a language that is the applicant’s first language or the language of study is the official language of the applicant’s country of birth or citizenship; and
- has not previously received this funding.
Additional information
The value of the Award is stated in your letter of offer. The Award is paid in a one-off instalment upon accepting the Award unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.
The recipient is responsible for organising their passport, visa if travelling internationally and insurance, and other costs involved in travel with undertaking the opportunity.
The recipient is responsible for making payment of all tuition fees by the prescribed date as set out by the University each session. Recipients of the Award are responsible for the costs of books, study materials, accommodation and all other costs of study.
The application is submitted on the prescribed form. Any requirement for supporting documentation and forwarding details will be stated on the application form and/or ANU Scholarships website. The application and all supporting documentation (where applicable) must be submitted on or prior to the closing date published on the ANU Scholarships website.
