About this scholarship

 

The Fulbright Program is the flagship foreign exchange scholarship program of the United States of America, aimed at increasing binational research collaboration, cultural understanding, and the exchange of ideas.

Fulbright Scholarships enable Australian students and researchers to undertake a master’s degree (1-2 year), PhD research (4-8 months), postdoctoral research (4-8 months) or short term research projects (4 months) at any U.S. university and in any field.

Applicants must:

  • Have Australian citizenship (or non-US dual citizenship)
  • hold undergraduate degree
  • 2-year home residency rules apply for previous U.S. J1 via holders

Applicants who have been successful in securing a Rhodes, John Monash or Ramsay scholarship are not eligible for a Fulbright Scholarship.

An application is required for this scholarship.

Additional information

  • Valued at $30,000 - $500,000 (depending on award category and program length)
  • Monthly stipend for duration of program for an individual based on the current approved MMR.
  • Partial tuition allowance (subject to funding availability, specified at time of offer)
  • Round-trip, economy class airfare directly to and from the scholar’s home city and the city of the host institution (capped at AUD$4,000).
  • Settling-in allowance.
  • A limited Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE) Health Benefits Plan, designed by the U.S. Department of State and administered by Seven Corners, Inc.
  • Orientation and networking opportunities.
  • Support from the Commission prior to and during program.
