About this scholarship

 

For students starting their program at ANU in 2026 for Semester 1, Summer Session, or Autumn Session, the Australian National University  (‘the University’)  may offer a number of awards known as the International Merit Award (‘the Award’).

The objective of the award is to attract a diverse range of academically capable overseas students to enrol in coursework programs offered by the University.

Eligibility

 

The Award is available to a student commencing at the ANU in Session 1, 2026 (this being: Semester 1, summer session, or autumn session of 2026) who:

  1. is an international student;
  2. holds citizenship in a country that is not eligible for the ANU International Vice-Chancellor’s award as detailed on the ANU Scholarships Website;
  3. meets the following minimum entry requirements:
    1. for an undergraduate student: an academic Selection Rank of 85 (or equivalent) or above, except for a student who is admitted on the basis of citizenship from a Country in the Pacific Region where Selection Rank is equal to the minimum program entry requirement; or
    2. for a postgraduate student:
      • has received a minimum GPA of 5.5 (or equivalent), and for Australian student visa purposes is considered onshore at the time of the award assessment; or
      • is from a Country in the Pacific Region and meets the minimum program entry requirement, and for Australian student visa purposes is considered onshore at the time of the award assessment
  4. is not the recipient of an external sponsorship that covers all or part of the cost of the student’s tuition fees with the University.
     

Additional information

 

Only applicants who meet all the eligibility criteria will be considered.  Selection is made based on academic merit. Qualifications submitted for admission to the University will be converted to the common scale, which will determine whether an applicant is eligible for the award. Eligible applicants with multiple qualifications will be ranked according to the qualification used as the basis of admission.

  • The scholarship will award a tuition fee reduction of 20%, 25% or 50% as outlined above.
  • The reduction is applied towards the tuition fees for the duration of the undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
  • Recipients are also guaranteed accommodation for their first year of study if they choose to take up this benefit.

There is no need to apply for the scholarship. All eligible overseas students who have applied for admission to commence at the university, including those who have already accepted their offer of admission, will be automatically considered.
