About this scholarship
The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) within the ANU College of Science and Medicine may offer a number of awards known as the A L Hales Honours Scholarship.
The objective of the Award is to attract outstanding students to undertake their Honours year in Earth Sciences. Named in honour of Professor A L Hales, the first Director of the Research School of Earth Sciences, it recognises his significant contributions during the school’s formative years.
Funding for this Award is provided by the Research School of Earth Sciences.

The Award is available to a commencing or continuing ANU student who:
- is a domestic student;
- is enrolled in an Honours program offered by the Research School of Earth Sciences within the ANU College of Science and Medicine (e.g., Bachelor of Science (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours), Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours), Bachelor of Global and Ocean Sciences (Honours), or equivalent).
Note: Supervision by staff from other research schools is permitted and encouraged - has a career GPA of 5.0 or above.

No application is required for this scholarship as all eligible candidates will be considered.
Additional information
Only applicants who meet all the eligibility criteria will be considered. Selection is made based on academic merit. One Award is reserved for a student who did not complete their bachelor's degree at ANU.
An additional allowance will be paid to successful applicants who have transferred their enrolment to ANU for their Honours year and whose permanent place of residence is outside of Canberra. This allowance is to help cover costs for travel and relocation expenses and will be paid once the candidate has enrolled.
