About this scholarship

 
The ANU Law School, of the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy in association with the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, is proud to offer the Leslie Zines Constitutional Law Scholarship.
 
The Scholarship will support an ANU Law student to undertake a supervised internship of 10 weeks in the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department. Subject to the operational needs of the Department, it is anticipated that 5 weeks will be spent in the Office of Constitutional Law and 5 weeks in the Office of General Counsel in the Australian Government Solicitor. 
 
Funding for the award has been provided from the Leslie Zines Endowment, established in memory of Professor Leslie Zines AO, a former Dean of the ANU Faculty of Law and one of Australia's leading constitutional law scholars.

Eligibility

 
The Award is available each year to a current ANU student who:
  1. is a domestic student; and
  2. is enrolled full time in the Bachelor of Laws (Hons) at the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, whether undertaking as a single or flexible double degree, and has successfully completed at least 90 units of LAWS coded courses; or
  3. is enrolled full time in the Juris doctor (JD) degree at the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy and has successfully completed at least 90 units of LAWS coded courses; and
  4. has successfully completed the course Commonwealth Constitutional Law (LAWS2202/6202); and
  5. has an excellent academic record and is able to demonstrate in the application an interest in, and aptitude for, constitutional law.

The value of the award is $15,000.  The Award is paid in a one-off instalment upon accepting the Award unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.

The Internship is for 10 weeks. Start and finish dates are flexible, but the program must be completed between November and February.
 
The recipient could be eligible for course credit if enrolled in the Law internship course (LAWS4230 /6230). To receive course credit, the recipient must meet the eligibility requirements for a law internship and apply for a self-arranged internship.
