About this scholarship
Each year, the ANU Korean Institute within the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific may offer a number of awards known as the Sochon Grant in Korean Studies.
The objective of the Award is to support outstanding students engaged in Korean studies for participation in an overseas study program or for engaging in field research.
Funding for this Award has been provided by the Sochon Foundation.
The Sochon Foundation, led by Madame Young Hi Park, has shown enduring support for Korean studies at ANU. Its contributions have ensured the establishment and continuation of this Award.

Eligibility
The Award is available each year to a continuing ANU student who:
- is a domestic or international student;
- is enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program offered by ANU College of Asia and the Pacific;
- is undertaking a major or minor in Korean studies/language; and
- has an ANU Career Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or higher.

The value of the Award is stated in your letter of offer. The Award is paid in a one-off instalment upon accepting the Award unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.
The recipient is responsible for organising their passport, visa if travelling internationally and insurance, and other costs involved in travel with undertaking the opportunity.
The recipient is responsible for making payment of all tuition fees by the prescribed date as set out by the University each session. Recipients of the Award are responsible for the costs of books, study materials, accommodation and all other costs of study.
Applications close on 15 March (for Semester 1) and 15 August (for Semester 2)
Applications must be submitted to Korea.institute@anu.edu.au by the due date, and comprise:
- A written statement of no more than one page, indicating the goals of study, the candidate's qualifications and strengths, and anticipated benefits to the candidate and Korean studies of the proposed program
- A curriculum vitae of no more than two pages, and examples of (as relevant) academic or professional work (optional)
- Academic transcript(s) for prior tertiary studies
- Nomination of two referees, at least one of whom can speak to the candidate's academic capability
