About this scholarship

 

A Start in Life offer a number of tertiary scholarships to students where financial disadvantage impacts their education.

To be eligible for this scholarship students must be an Australian citizen, under the age of 25, enrolled in full-time on-campus studies, and completing an undergraduate university degree within NSW or ACT.

  • For engaged and motivated students who are facing financial barriers to their studies
  • Up to $5,000 of financial assistance per year ($20,000 over 4 years)
  • 1st Year students may be eligible for funding of a new laptop or device – up to $1,400 
  • Help to cover educational and living expenses – including textbooks, internet, accommodation, utilities, transport, extra-curriculars and more
  • $500-$1,500 per year for students completing unpaid work placements (for up to 3 years)
  • $500 academic bonus payment per year for students with an improved or high Weighted-Average Mark
  • Access to A Start in Life’s Alumni program
  • Opportunities to mentor Secondary students, particularly in Years 9 and 10

Students must also meet our criteria in the following areas:

  • Financial – income and assets must be below thresholds
  • Academic attainment and history
  • Engagement – including regularly sending us written reflections, academic transcripts and confirmations of expenditure
