About this scholarship

 

Every two years the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences ("the College") may offer a travel grant known as the Vis and Anjeli Nathan Travel Grant (Philosophy)"the award").

The objective of the award is to provide support to facilitate travel or fieldwork to a student who is enrolled in an undergraduate Philosophy program. The travel would need to take place in Semester 2 of the year of your enrolment.

Funding for this award has been provided by the Vis and Anjeli Nathan Scholarship The scholarship was established in 2001 by the parents of Anjeli Nathan to honour her memory following her death in a car accident the previous year while conducting fieldwork in South Africa.  Anjeli Nathan was a university medallist in Zoology in 1998 after completing an honours degree at the School of Botany and Zoology in the ANU College of Science.

Eligibility

 

The award is available every other year to an ANU student who:

(a) Is a domestic or international student. 

(b) Has demonstrated a high capacity for achievement in the field of Philosophy. 

(c) Is enrolled in an undergraduate program offered by the ANU College of Arts and Social sciences in the discipline of Philosophy.

Additional information

 

The School of Philosophy has available the Vis and Anjeli Nathan Travel grant up to the value of $2,800 to support undergraduate students to attend overseas conferences as part of their degree.

The recipient is responsible for making payment of all tuition fees by the prescribed date as set out by the University each session.  Recipients of this award are responsible for the costs of books, study materials, accommodation and all other costs of study.

Applications should not exceed an A4 single-spaced page and include information on the conference, confirmation of acceptance of a paper from the conference organiser and/or why attending this conference is beneficial to your studies and an indicative budget.  Please also include your academic transcript.  For enquiries, please contact Professor Katie Steele at Katie.Steele@anu.edu.au

In the event the Scholarship is awarded, the recipient may be requested to participate in publicity for the Vis and Anjeli Nathan Travel Grant (Philosophy). Scholars may be contacted for an interview and photograph.  Please refer to the Conditions of Award document for further details.

In addition, the Scholarship recipient will be required to forward a letter of appreciation to the donors within 1-2 weeks of notification of receiving the Scholarship. The letter of appreciation should be addressed to the Vis and Anjeli Nathan Travel Grant Foundation and submitted to the CASSScholarships and Prizes Officer (awards.cass@anu.edu.au) so it can be forwarded to the donors.
