Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Entry Scheme

If you’ve competed as an elite athlete while completing secondary school, you may be eligible for adjustment factors in recognition of the impact your sporting commitments have had on your studies.

ANU is part of the national network of Elite Athlete Friendly Universities and supports students to balance high-performance sport with their academic commitments.

Are you eligible?

You may be eligible for Elite Athlete adjustment factors if:

  • you participate in a funded, or unfunded sport recognised by Sport Australia through a National Sporting Organisation or National Sporting Organisation for People with Disability;
  • you have competed at state, national or international level; and
  • your training and competition commitments have impacted, or are expected to impact, your Year 11 and/or Year 12 studies.

A full list of National Sporting Organisations and their funding type may be found on the Australian Sports Directory website.

You must also meet the general eligibility requirements for ANU Adjustment Factors.

What supporting documents do I need?

You’ll need to provide evidence of your elite athlete status and sporting commitments. Please provide one of the following

  • A statement from your coach or sporting organisation — a signed and dated statement on official letterhead from your coach and/or a sporting organisation recognised by Sport Australia. The statement must confirm your elite athlete status at state, national and/or international level and clearly specify the dates of the competition(s) you participated in.

OR

  • A statement from your school — a signed and dated statement on official school letterhead from an appropriate staff member corroborating your elite athlete status and explaining how your sporting commitments have impacted your Year 11 studies and are expected to impact your Year 12 studies. You must also provide supporting evidence of your sporting achievements, such as selection letters, competition or tournament certificates, or similar documentation.

Your documentation should clearly demonstrate both your level of competition and the timing of your sporting commitments.

What if my sport isn't recognised by Sport Australia?

Sports not recognised as a National Sporting Organisation or National Sporting Organisation for People with Disability by the Australian Sports Commission will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to the supporting documents listed above, you should provide a statement outlining:

  • the nature of the sport;
  • its national and international growth; and
  • how participating in the sport may support your career and/or life goals.

How many adjustment factors can I receive?

The Elite Athlete Friendly University Entry Scheme and Subject Adjustment Scheme share a combined cap of 5 adjustment factors, within your overall limit of 15.

Excluded programs don't accept adjustment factors from these two schemes at all.
