ANU Adjustment factors

Every ANU program has minimum admissions requirements that you need to meet or exceed to be considered for that program. Adjustment factors can contribute to your ANU selection rank, which will be used when assessing your eligibility for a program at ANU.

You need to know that:

  • Adjustments do not change your Year 11 school result or your year 12 result (or equivalent); they change your selection rank for a particular preference.
  • Your selection rank = your Year 11 school result or your year 12 result (or equivalent) + adjustments factors.
  • You need to have a minimum Year 11 school result, or a year 12 result (or equivalent) score of 70 or higher to be eligible to receive adjustments factors.

Adjustment factors are course specific. your selection rank can differ depending on your course preferences. A specific number of courses can only receive up to 5 equity-based adjustment factors. Please find the information through the below links. 

Undergraduate applicants can be considered for adjustment factors through the following schemes:

National Access Scheme (NAS

Under this Scheme, there are:

  • Subject adjustments, based on performance in specific Year 12 subjects.
  • Performer Adjustments, for the achievement of an Australian Music Education Board (AMEB) Grade 8 or higher;
  • Educational Access Scheme (Equity) Adjustments, provide equity-based adjustments, including characteristics associated with disadvantage.

Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Entry Scheme 

This scheme provides Elite Athlete adjustments, which are available based on sporting prowess. An applicant can receive a maximum amount of 15 adjustment factors combined across all schemes as the following:

  • Up to 10 equity-based adjustments; and 
  • Up to 5 subject-based, performance-based (AMEB Grade 8) or Elite Athlete adjustments

How to apply for adjustment factors 

Depending on how you are applying to ANU. there are different methods to apply for adjustment factors. 

Domestic undergraduate - Apply to ANU directly

If you are applying directly to ANU through the Early Entry Application, you can manage your adjustment factors within your application. Your ANU selection rank (year 11 results plus any adjustments) or the final ANU selection rank (ATAR/IB plus any adjustments) is used to apply for programs at ANU.

  • Log in to your ANU application
  • Click 'Adjustment factors' 
  • Read the criteria of each category of adjustment factor and answer the relevant questions to determine your eligibility.
  • If you are eligible, download the coversheet with information on what documentation you'll need
  • Upload these required documents along with the coversheet to your application before the application deadline.

Note -You will automatically be assessed for subject-based adjustments upon completion of your Year 12 or IB qualification.

Domestic undergraduate - Apply to ANU through UAC

If you are applying to ANU through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), you will automatically be assessed for subject-based adjustments upon submitting your application.

If you believe you are eligible for equity-based adjustments, you must submit an online equity application through UAC after completing your admission application.

To be considered for performer-based adjustments or as an Elite Athlete, you need to directly provide your documents to ANU. Please review the specific requirements for each adjustment of these schemes.
