ANU Adjustment Factors

Every ANU program has minimum admissions requirements that you need to meet or exceed to be considered for that program. Adjustment factors can contribute to your ANU selection rank, which will be used when assessing your eligibility for a program at ANU. Note that all applications to ANU are on a competitive basis, and meeting the minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee entry to the program.

You need to know that:

  • Your selection rank is your school result (ATAR or equivalent) plus adjustments factors.
  • Adjustments do not change your school result (ATAR or equivalent); they change your selection rank for a particular program preference.
  • Adjustment factors are program specific, therefore your selection rank can differ between different program preferences.
  • Except for excluded programs, the maximum number of adjustment factors than an applicant may receive is, cumulative across all schemes, 15. Excluded programs have a maximum of 5 adjustment factors.
  • Adjustment factors through the Elite Athlete Friendly University Entry Scheme, the Subject Adjustment Scheme, and the Performer Scheme have a shared cap of 5 adjustments within the overall maximum of 15. Excluded programs do not accept adjustment factors from these three schemes.

For early offer applicants:

  • Your early offer application will be assessed with your selection rank based on your Year 11 results plus adjustment factors. Not all adjustment factor schemes can be applied for at the early offer stage.
  • Your assessment for a final offer will be made using your selection rank based on the best of your Year 11 or Year 12 results, combined with adjustment factors.

To be eligible for adjustment factors:

  • Your school results (ATAR or equivalent), or Year 11 results (for early offer applicants), must be equal to a rank of 70 or higher (before adjustment factors are applied).
  • You must meet the definition of a domestic student.
  • You are applying to an undergraduate coursework program/s.
  • If you have undergone higher (tertiary) education, you have completed less than one year full-time equivalent study.
  • For all schemes other than the Diversity Scheme, your selection rank is based on your results from either the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or the International Baccalaureate. Other qualifications are only eligible for adjustment factors if they generate a selection rank, and only from the Diversity Scheme.

Applicants can be considered for adjustment factors through the following schemes:

Education Access Scheme (EAS)

For applicants who have encountered circumstances outside of their control that may have had a negative impact on their secondary school results during Year 11 and Year 12.

Diversity Scheme

For applicants identified as belonging to a group that may be eligible for support to better achieve a balanced student cohort at ANU.

Elite Athlete Friendly University Entry Scheme

For applicants who are registered with a National Sporting Organisation as recognised by the Australian Sports commission, have competed in a sport at a state, national, or international level, and that their participation has impacted their secondary study.

Subject Adjustment Scheme

For applicants who have achieved high results in particular secondary school subjects.

Performer Scheme

For applicants who have completed the Australian Music Examinations Board Grade 8 qualification.

How to Apply for Adjustment Factors - Early Offer Applications

If you are applying directly to ANU through the Early Offer Application, you can manage your adjustment factors within your application.

  • Log in to your ANU application
  • Click 'Adjustment factors'
  • Read the criteria of each category of adjustment factor and answer the relevant questions to determine your eligibility.
  • If you are eligible, download the coversheet with information on what documentation you'll need.
  • Upload these required documents along with the coversheet to your application before the application deadline.

You will automatically be assessed for Subject Adjustments upon completion of Year 12. You will automatically be assessed for the Diversity Scheme if eligible.

How to Apply for Adjustment Factors - UAC Applications

If you are applying to ANU through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), you will automatically be assessed for Subject Adjustments and adjustments within the Diversity Scheme upon submitting your application.

If you believe you are eligible for adjustments through the Education Access Scheme, you must apply for these adjustments through UAC after completing your admission application.

To be considered for performer-based adjustments or as an Elite Athlete, you need to provide your documents directly to ANU. Please review the specific requirements for each adjustment scheme.
