Each year the Australian National University offers the National Indigenous Merit Scholarship with the aim of acknowledging the academic excellence of Indigenous students in secondary school studies and provide assistance with costs related to tertiary studies.

Eligibility
The Award is available each year to a commencing ANU student who:
- is a domestic student; and
- identifies and is accepted as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
- receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree program at the University; and
- has completed their Year 12 or equivalent qualification within the last two years and achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or ANU Selection rank between 90 and 94.95 (no adjustment factors); and
- has not enrolled in an undergraduate degree program previous to commencing at the University.

The scholarship provides a stipend of $6,500 per annum for a maximum of 5 years
All applicants applying for admission to ANU through the direct Admission Scholarship and Accommodation Application will be automatically considered for the award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria and electing to be considered for scholarships.
Students applying through other channels ie. UAC will also be considered.
