About this scholarship

 

Each year the Australian National University may offer an award known as the Robert and Rosemary Walsh Scholarship.

The objective of the Award is to provide financial support to a student who identifies as first in their family to attend University, to undertake undergraduate studies at ANU. A student is considered first generation (or first in family) if their parents (or guardians) have not attended university. A student is first generation even if their siblings and/or other members of their family have attended university. First generation students include those with an Out of Home Care (OOHC) experience.

Funding for this Award has been provided by alumni Robert and Rosemary Walsh. Robert graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours). Rosemary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and psychology and was a foundation resident of Bruce Hall.

The Award is available each year to a commencing ANU student who:

  1. is a domestic student; 
  2. receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate program; and
  3. self-identify as the first in their family to attend University.

Additional information

 

The scholarships offer a stipend of $10,000 per annum paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semester up to five years for an undergraduate program.

All applicants applying for admission to ANU through the direct Admission Scholarship and Accommodation Application will be automatically considered for the award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria and electing to be considered for scholarships.

Applicants who have put at least one ANU program as a first, second or third preference when applying for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre (NSW & ACT) will also be considered.
