One of the things current students love about ANU is the ability to study a Flexible Double Degree. It’s a great option for undergraduates who want to combine their interests and graduate in less time than it takes to complete two single degrees.
Overview
If you’re unfamiliar, a Flexible Double Degree lets you study two bachelor degrees simultaneously. You have the same workload as if you’re only studying one, but end up graduating with two qualifications in four to five years, which is considerably less time than it takes to study two undergraduate degrees separately.
There are a range of reasons to undertake a Flexible Double Degree. You might be torn, unable to decide between two areas you love. You might want to study a highly sought-after degree alongside a complementary degree or one that explores another area you’re passionate about. Or you might want to make yourself more attractive to employers by scoring two sought-after qualifications.
But the beauty of a double degree is in its flexibility. With 599 combinations, you can build your own – and the possibilities are almost endless.

Let’s say you’ve always been passionate about art history. Well, doing a Bachelor of Art History and Curatorship with a Bachelor of Business Administration means you can explore your passion, while also making sure you’ve got widely applicable skills as a backup.
Or let’s say you’d like to work in a research lab but dabble in law so you can also provide policy advice and other skills. You’ll have more careers to choose from once you graduate and more to offer your employers. Degrees like the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Genetics develop complementary skills and knowledge that could see you working in a scientific or legal field – or combining the two.
Maybe you (like a lot of people finishing high school) have no idea what you want to do. That’s where a Flexible Double Degree comes in handy. Rather than trying to figure out something specific, you can study across diverse fields and see what fits.
Say you combine study for a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Science (Psychology); you’ll graduate with a broad range of skills sought after by employers and get to mix up your studies.
And if you realise one of the degrees you chose isn’t for you, you’ll be well supported in swapping your study for something else.

Do you know exactly what you want to do, and you always have? You might be alright with a single degree – or you can do a double to really beef up your resume.
Imagine you’ve always dreamed of working in international relations. A Bachelor of International Relations is a good bet, but combining it with a Bachelor of Asian Studies (with Year in Asia) helps you understand a changing world where Australia is increasingly integrated with the Asia Pacific.
That puts you head and shoulders above candidates with just a single degree.
Whether you want to follow your heart or your head, make yourself more attractive to employers, or just aren’t sure what to study, a Flexible Double Degree at ANU can get you on the right track for your future career. It’s one of Australia’s best flexible degree options for undergraduates, and a truly unmissable opportunity.
