Choosing a uni in your last year of school is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. It can also feel a bit overwhelming. So, why study at ANU? Discover our top 5 reasons, including the fabulous campus, learning experiences and being able to apply for an early offer.

Overview

  • Learn from global experts in small classes.
  • 599 double degree options and internship opportunities unique to a national capital.
  • Early offers for Year 12 students and guaranteed accommodation.

1. We’re Australia’s national university

Tackling complex problems with the global experts who write the textbooks is part of a normal day at ANU. Thirteen of our subjects are number one in the country. We’re also integrated with the national capital: academics get involved in developing government policy and students enjoy exciting internship opportunities they can’t get anywhere else.

2. Small classes with great teachers

ANU has a 5-star student-teacher ratio of 11:1. That means you’ll study in small classes and have plenty of time with your lecturers and tutors, letting you dig deeply into your learning. The academics at ANU are world-leading – and their cutting edge research will feature in your courses.

You also have the opportunity to step outside the classroom. Archaeology students can visit field schools around the world on archaeological surveys. Business students can intern at some of Australia’s biggest companies. And anyone can study abroad at our 180 partner institutions while gaining credit towards their ANU degree.

3. Follow your heart and head with a double degree

Are you torn between studying something you’re passionate about and something that's highly sought-after by employers?

You don’t have to choose between your heart and your head at ANU. Our flexible double degrees let you study two bachelor programs in four or five years, which is less time than it takes to study two single degrees. Study science and visual art or law and art history. There are 599 possible combinations, so build your own flexible double degree – and graduate with two qualifications.

4. Get an early offer

If you’re a current Year 12 student, then congratulations. You can apply to ANU for free and could get an early offer in September based on your Year 11 results.

Applications for school-leavers open between March and May – and the best part is that guaranteed student accommodation is covered along with any scholarships you might be eligible for. Yes, just one form for everything!

That means, instead of juggling applications, you can focus on getting the most out of your last year at school.

5. Our supportive community

Students come from across Australia and around the world to study at ANU. Our campus has a diverse, welcoming community that will make you feel right at home.

The ANU Students’ Association (ANUSA) covers over 110 clubs and societies. Whatever interests you, there’s a club to let you explore it while you make new friends. Plus, ANUSA runs groups like the BIPOC Department and Queer Department, and elections, which give you a space to get involved in advocacy and represent other students on campus.

If you’ve grown up outside the cities and need help adjusting, or if you are from a low-income or refugee background, the First-Year Experience Program is for you. This lets students connect, get to grips with uni life and become part of a robust support network.
