Find your Zen with yoga at ANU Sport

It’s normal to feel stressed and anxious while living a busy uni lifestyle. One effective way to manage this stress is through the arts of yoga and meditation. ANU Sport provides various free yoga classes on campus that help you relax and refocus.

Take a look at the yoga timetable to find a session that suits your schedule. These classes help you unwind, clear your mind and regain your balance. Even a single session can make a difference.

Chat and get it off your chest

Sometimes, just talking about what you’re going through can make a huge difference. ANU Counselling offers free and confidential sessions for students. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or any other mental health issue, the counsellors are here to help.

The counsellors at ANU are experienced professionals skilled in addressing a wide range of issues, from stress and anxiety to trauma and relationship problems.

Check in on your body

Your mental health is closely linked to your physical health. If you’re feeling unwell or need a check-up, the ANU Medical Centre in Kambri is open Monday through Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm. The services provided by general practitioners (GPs) and nurses are bulk billed for all domestic ANU students, meaning there are no out-of-pocket costs. If you’re an international student, your Overseas Student Health Cover will cover the cost of these and other medical services.

When you're experiencing mental health concerns, talking to a GP can be a good starting point. They can provide an assessment, refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist if necessary and prescribe medication.

When making an appointment, it’s helpful to specify that it’s for a mental health issue or select a ‘long’ or ‘extended’ appointment slot if booking online. This ensures you have enough time with your GP to discuss your concerns.

Relaxation resources

When stress starts to build, having mindfulness tools on hand to relax and deal with it can be incredibly beneficial. ANU offers several free relaxation resources to help you manage your mental health. From guided meditations to relaxation techniques, these resources are easily accessible and designed to help you find peace in your day.

Taking a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness can significantly impact your overall wellbeing.
